I remember seeing some WWI era letters exchanged between Bertie and Dickie (possibly while at Cambridge). They’re rather amusing; one involves Bertie wanting to go party and meet girls only for his father to show up on campus and proceed to make things very difficult. But over all girls and parties were more David’s scene.
I’ve always felt that Dickie and David probably did have a bit of fun together and Dickie liked both Bertie and David, but Dickie was so ambitious and selfish he couldn’t be a good friend to anyone. David was his best friend for almost twenty years yet Dickie had no problem just jumping ship. Then he didn’t go to David’s wedding and had the nerve to lie to everyone and pretend he wasn’t invited. Except The Firm; he probably told them to truth. There was even a poem made about “Rat Week” but I find Dickie’s behavior the worst because he was an actual close friend and not a hanger-on like many of the others. Then some thirty years later when the heat is off Dickie tries to be buddy-buddy with David because he and Wallis didn’t have kids and Dickie wanted them to leave him their stuff (well, some of their stuff, he wanted stuff he didn’t want left to his “honorary grandson” Prince Charles and a few other royals) when they died. Then after David died, Dickie had the nerve to pretend to be friends with Wallis (who he’d never liked and had insulted behind her back for years) in the hopes her memory was far gone enough she’d forgotten what a treacherous slimeball he was. When that failed to get him her money, he gave up and got his revenge by telling every trash biographer who would listen what an ugly bitch Wallis had always been.
Dickie and Bertie didn’t have that much in common, particularly after they married and Bertie settled down to be a family man while Dickie cheated on his wife every chance he got. I honestly wish the Queen Mum had just slammed the door on his face and cut him out of royal life like they did to David. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’d wanted to. I suspect some of her initial disdain for Philip was because he was Dickie’s nephew.
Anne is sort of the dark horse of the Windsor clan. I’m not really a fan because she’s just too loyal to her awful brother, but there are things about her to admire. There’s much more to her than meets the eye.
Mostly he’s just bad at knowing what he should and shouldn’t reveal, like his dad and older brother. Here’s a link on some of his scandals over the years. Mostly political stuff.
When I said he looks better when he keeps his mouth shut I was actually referring to his horse teeth, NGL.
Yes. They knew each other well enough and exchanged letters sometimes, but then after the Abdication crisis Dickie just decided Bertie was his new best friend instead of David. The Queen Mum regarded this with some suspicion, naturally. Because of that, Dickie was never as close to Bertie as he had been to David. But they still got on very well. Here’s Dickie with David, Bertie, and their other brother Harry. I know there are some pictures of Dickie and Bertie hanging out, but I can’t find them online right now.

Well, both of them are fairly private people so I only know of the dirt I’ve heard from tabloids. Mark Philips is a bit of a sleaze. He had a love child while married to Princess Anne. Anne started up with Timothy Laurence while still married, but after things had fallen apart. He was an equerry to Queen Elizabeth. Apparently there was a minor scandal when some “intimate” letters between the two were stolen. As far as I know the juicy bits have never leaked. This was around the time of the Charles/Diana and Andrew/Fergie marriage break downs so it wasn’t as major a scandal as it could’ve been. When three of the Queen’s four children are in failed marriages the tabloids get spread thin covering it all. Timothy’s got that kind of stern Scottish sailor look about him.

Honestly, I think if Anne were a bit more stylish and if her marriage hadn’t gone south right in the middle of scandal season Anne might be considered quite the scandalous lady and have a reputation more like Princess Margaret’s instead of as being the boring one in the family.
Andrew has his moments. Especially when he keeps his mouth shut.
I just prefer William and Harry because I think they have such pretty faces. Will is not really suited to the bald guy look, but when he puts on a hat he’s really fine. But hair or no hair he was absolutely flawless around age eighteen. If your lil bro really looks like Harry I would encourage him to come to America when he comes of age. He will find himself very popular.
And I love both your blogs too! :)
Will and Kate’s children will be stunning. Can you imagine Will’s lovely features (from Diana) with Kate’s green eyes and glossy brown hair? They should also be really tall, too. The next generation of Windsors will probably look like supermodels.
