I wonder what the cream/lotion would be. I can't think of anything that would work overnight in making someone's skin look better. Maybe she's just very devoted to her skincare regime. I'm not surprised about her looking at blogs - Even celebs have admitted to googling themselves. If I were a royal, I'd totally check out tumblr.
I don’t see it as an overnight skin improving thing, but rather that she has naturally dry or oily skin and this product helps manage it. Most women have, by twenty-five or so, found some kind of skincare product they’re devoted to using every night.
Some rather juicy gossip...take it with a grain of salt!
I heard Kate frequently reads royal blogs. Including on Tumblr. She avoids ones that focus entirely on her, as she’s more interested in reading about how other members of the royal family are going over with public. She finds reading about herself rather frustrating because anything she does is going to be loved by some and hated by others. Not that she doesn’t look. Who in her position wouldn’t be tempted?
My source for this is an old friend who works at a tabloid and met someone on Kate’s staff who mentioned that not only does Kate read royal blogs but she frequently trades links with people. Back when she and William were just dating Kate apparently would write down URLs of blogs she liked on little pink post-its and give them to her friends.
-Kate rarely uses email anymore for fear she’ll be hacked. William and Harry do, but never anything that would cause a scandal if it was forwarded far and wide. There was an issue a while back when Kate or someone in her immediate family sent an email to someone who turned out to be a reporter and it was not only used as a story but an attempt was made to use it against them.
-Kate has one of those cheap clear blue plastic cosmetic cases that her mom bought her at a drug store near St. Andrews when Kate realized she’d forgotten some basics at home when she was dropped off from a family trip. She takes it with her everywhere when she travels, and she keeps all her essentials in it. There was a major screaming match with one of Kate’s close friends a few years back when they were travelling and the friend misplaced the case. There’s this lotion or cleanser or something Kate keeps in the case and if she doesn’t put it on at night her skin will be in bad shape the next morning.
-Kate sometimes leaves new clothes in the shopping bag for months until she gets a chance to wear them. When she’s staying at one of the palaces she doesn’t allow the staff to touch her clothes at all, even to iron them, unless she expressly asks for it.
Here in Virginia you can take your gun with you to Starbucks and put it on the table while you sit and sip your mocha. No one cares. You can drive around with as many guns as you want in your car. If you want a to keep your gun concealed in a holster you need a concealed carry permit, but if you keep it out where people can see it you don’t have to have anything. Some cities and counties may prevent you from keeping a loaded gun with you (most don’t) but I don’t think Pippa’s friend was stupid enough to pull a loaded gun on a paparazzo. If someone got arrested for pulling out a gun here, the NRA would have them out of jail in five minutes and the cops who arrested them would be fired.
These are the main primary sources I know of involving her imprisonment and execution. There are a few other accounts recorded in different biographies, but most basically say the same things, or come from people who wouldn’t have known for sure anyway.
Did you hear about the Queen appointing Camilla the Royal Victorian Order? What are your thoughts about it?
Yes! It’s a very good sign for Camilla and shows she has been accepted into the royal family. The Royal Victorian Order is a personal gift from the Queen. She decides who gets one, and no one is automatically entitled. Both members of the royal family and commoners can get one if they are of service to the Queen. Some seem to think Camilla should have gotten one earlier, but Andrew and Edward just got it last year so it’s certainly not a long time coming for Camilla. I think it’s a very good sign for her that she’s getting one at all. Fergie never did, and she isn’t the only one. It would have made perfect sense for Camilla to never get one given the damage she did to the monarchy.
Wat do you know about the queen's relationship with her maternal grandmother? do you have pictures?
This has been sitting in my inbox for like a week. I’m so sorry, Anon!
There’s a set of pictures I know I have that I’ve been looking before to answer your question properly. In sort, they were pretty close. I’ll do a post in a few days when I find what I’m looking for as I really do want to fully address your question which I can’t do at the moment without those pictures.
Hi :) I just had a quick question. You've mentioned that no biographer would touch Prince Henry, the Duke of Gloucester and I was just wondering if you had any idea why. I'm really curious as to why there's no information out there about him, was he just boring or was something up with him?
There are really two possibilities:
1. He was too boring, and there isn’t much documentation on his life, plus a lack of interest.
2. He was crazy/drunk/pervy and the royals have kept information on his life under wraps.
Either one could conceivably be true. The reason I’m tempted to say something is being supressed is that whenever the trashier books go into him at all it’s always something very very bizarre. Like one book gives a direct quote from him praising Hitler’s policy on the Jews, something the Windsors would have obviously kept under wraps. Now, that quote could be third-hand bullshit for all I know and given the source, that’s pretty likely. But what makes it weird is that there’s no information I have to contradict that with. Another source claimed he was a bit “slow” in some way or another. One strange fact is that George V gave him a break on the military education he demanded for the other boys, even Bertie who was not suited for that at all. On the other hand, while David and Wallis joked that he was a bit stupid (which means a lot coming from those two brilliant scholars) all of the sources I’ve seen from David and Bertie indicate there wasn’t anything particularly notable wrong. Though it is strange how little he comes up in comparison to the rest of the family. He wasn’t kept away like John, but certainly there was something a bit off. He did not seem to do a lot of royal duties. Henry was, for whatever reason, kept rather under wraps by The Firm. It could be something as innocent as him being uncomfortable speaking publicly, like Bertie.
When he married Alice, she was often the center of attention when they were out, and I’ve seen more pictures of her than him. She published a memoir which is quite rare, so I haven’t read it though I’m looking at the moment, but apparently the focus is more on her own independant life and not their relationship. I wonder if it was a love match or not; I’d like to think it was but everything I’ve read indicates she was very different from him.
From a practical perspective, if I wanted to write a biography of Henry I wouldn’t have a clue where to start or what sources to use. Presumably there are some letters; I have seen quotes from letters of his in books on his parents or brothers. I would know where to start with Mary or George, and already know quite a lot on David and Bertie. Even John I might be able to get some stuff on. Henry is quite the enigma. I’ve heard vague whisperings on some kind of perversion or deviance, but that sort of thing is impossible to confirm and whenver I’ve ever researched something like that it always turns out to be untrue or unlikely. He had an affair with Beryl Markham while she was pregnant and apparently she blackmailed him, but that sort of thing was common back in the day. But I still wouldn’t be surprised if something really shocking came out about him.
“Wallis never had any dignity nor proportion. She never could take even minor criticism. She needed a strong man with judgement. If she was hurt she would fly into a tantrum. She was wild when she was angry and there was no end to her hate or temper. I think the Duke has always been mortally afraid of her. I know most of the time I was.”—Ernest Simpson a certain ex-wife of his. Don’t we all feel bad for him? (Note: If you are ever considering feeling bad for Ernest Simpson, please keep in mind that he pulled a Newt (as in Gingrich) on his first wife while she was in the hospital. Karma is a bitch.)
“Queen Victoria was a master matchmaker. She married off her daughters and sons with sureness and rapidity. Little David was hardly two when the Czarina of Russia visited England, bringing along her daughter, the Grand Duchess Olga, then scarcely a year old. Toddling about the nursery while the Queen looked on, Olga went down with a crash. Gallant little David rushed to her aid and kissed her. The eyes of the Queen twinkled .
“What a sweet alliance,” she is reported to have said.”—

When you’re royal, it’s never too early to make plans to marry you off!
